Give the Gift of Hope With Street Fit®

There are so many benefits of becoming a Street Fit Instructor, and it is natural to focus on what we can personally gain from attending the course and obtaining a licence – enhanced fitness, a body to envy, increased energy, better health and, of course, increased earning potential.

But in addition to these personal benefits, becoming a Street Fit® Instructor also allows you to do something very special: give the gift of hope to others.

Hope for Better Health

Many people looking to take up fitness classes do so because they are unhappy about certain aspects of their health. They might be lacking in energy or stamina, carrying a few extra pounds or just generally feeling out of shape.

When they start experiencing results from their Hip Hop Workout® their whole life outlook can start to change dramatically. As their energy levels rise, they will feel more empowered to achieve the things they want in life. Maybe that job or promotion they never had the confidence to go for becomes that bit more appealing.

Hope for Fulfilling Relationships

Single members who feel unfit and out of shape may have avoided dating, or even going out at all, because they see themselves as unattractive. Along with the improvements in health and vitality, Street Fit® members will develop more trust and confidence in their own bodies which will make them more attractive to potential partners! We are social creatures, and some people might join a Street Fit® class to meet other people with a similar interest. The bonds that develop in a Street Fit® class can lift people out of loneliness and enrich their social life.

Hope for a New Life

Some people who attend a Street Fit® class will themselves have aspirations to become instructors one day.  The benefits you enjoy – both in terms of lifestyle and health – will serve as inspiration for them. By following your own dreams and defying convention, you give others the permission to do the same.

Hope for the Future

One of the greatest gifts anyone can give to society is to coach the younger generation into valuing their health and upgrading their expectations in life. A Street Fit Kids® Licence enables Street Fit® Members to take their message of optimism and hope to where it matters most – our schools and young people’s institutions.

Encouraging Hope in your Class

To be a successful Street Fit Instructor, you will need to instil hope from the top down. In other words, it’s up to you to set the social and emotional tone of your class. You can do this by being attentive and patient to your class members and encouraging them when they overcome hurdles or exceed expectations. Remember – you are a role model, and your members will be sensitive to any praise or criticism that comes from you.

Reaching your personal goals is rewarding in its own right. But there’s no better feeling than being able to reach back and help others achieve their dreams too.

Put Blue Monday Behind You…For Good! With Street Fit

Put Blue Monday Behind You…For Good! You may or may not have realised that last Monday was supposedly the most depressing day of the year. So-called ‘Blue Monday’ was created by a PR company back in 2005 but the concept is now so popular that #bluemonday was trending number one in the world on Twitter on the day.

The good news is that by becoming a Street Fit Instructor you can put any lingering Blue Monday feelings  behind you,  and focus on creating the 2013 you want – living life to your schedule.

No More Monday Mornings

With Street Fit® your time is your own, which means it’s up to you when and where you work. It’s amazing how quickly those Monday morning blues become a thing of the past once you realise you’re doing things for yourself and not a company boss. If you don’t like getting up on Monday morning – or any morning come to that – build your business around evening classes and give yourself  a bit of a lie-in.

How successful you want to become is also up to you. Not everyone wants to rule the world, but there’s nothing wrong with setting up a few classes to make a little on the side. On the other hand if you want to dominate your area, the Street Fit® brand will give you the kudos you need to start your rise to the top, and you could always work your way towards becoming a Street Fit® Trainer. Exciting new add-ons, like the SF Kids® licence will open up new and lucrative markets for you as your experience and confidence grows, while Street Fit® membership can give you added support and resources.

Your Future Awaits

The life you deserve may be closer than you think, but making the step from dream to reality requires action. Do you have any spending money left over from Christmas that is burning a hole? Does someone in the family still owe you a gift? What better way to kick-start the year on a high than investing an affordable £285 in your future by booking a spot on one of our UK-wide courses. Courses last just the one day, and there is even an online option for those who really can’t find the time to come to us. So does Blue Monday actually exist? Only if you believe in it –we say try believing in yourself instead!

Ditch the Routine with Street Fit’s Secret Ingredient

The Spice of Dance

They say that variety is the spice of life; well, a Street Fit® licence will give you that special ingredient guaranteed to give a kick to any choreography – absolute creative control.

The idea that working out can be fun (and needs to be if you want to attract customers!) is catching on fast, and Street Fit are by no means the only fitness company that want to turn fitness into more of a party than a chore.

But if you were holding a party for your friends, would you want to be limited to a set menu, restricted to serving the same dishes that everyone else is? Do you want to play the same games, and listen to identical music? Of course not.

The problem with some dance fitness concepts is that you can end up stuck with a pre-designed choreography that you get bored with – or even start hating. Some instructors have reported shelling out substantial amounts of money only to discover that the purchased routines feel disconnected.

You’re Head Chef

With Street Fit®, you’re not one of a production line of cooks, you’re head chef! Of course we provide you with the basic workout structure, and some choreography to get you going, but we expect you to adapt that to your own style, creating your own exotic and mouth-watering dishes.

Basically, we want you to take the Street Fit® concept and run with it, giving life to the urban spirit that underlies the hip-hop street dance culture.

Don’t Skip Dessert!

Just as all restaurants offer a similar progression of courses (starter, main, dessert, coffee, etc.), you are required to stick to the basic workout structure. This is for health and safety reasons, since omitting a warm up can lead to serious injury. We also stress the importance of cooling down after your workout. Some other dance companies have been criticised by dance professionals for skimping on the stretching and cool down phases.

Our Street Fit® Instructors’ Courses also emphasise other fundamental practices, such as observing correct alignment: high intensity exercise can cause injury if these important procedures are omitted.

Our Name Above Your Door

When we give you the right to use our name, we want you to think of it as a way of enticing customers in at the front door, not as a mark of ownership. Customers (and fitness venues) feel more comfortable relating to a powerful brand, which will work in your interest, but we need creative, expressive instructors who are not afraid to ditch the routine and reinvent fitness for a new dance-hungry generation.

So What’s Today’s Excuse?

If you’re still toying with the idea of becoming a Street Fit Instructor, but haven’t yet convinced yourself to sign up, what’s stopping you?

We’ve decided to put together a list of the most common reasons why you might be stalling and submit them to a reality check.

I’ve got no time!

If you’re currently enjoying a brilliant career that you love, and putting every spare moment into it, then fine, we understand why booking a Street Fit Instructor’s course is not top of your priority list.

But if your definition of being too busy is working every hour under the sun in a job that is tolerable (at best) in order to pay the bills and put food on the table then you need to start creating the time you need to change that situation. Street Fit Instructor’s courses last one day – ONE DAY! No matter what their circumstances, everyone is entitled to a day off every now and then. Look through our list of courses and find the next course in your area and make sure you book it off – perhaps swap a day with a colleague.

Once you have your Street Fit licence under your belt, you may need to put in a bit of extra effort at first – just to get established. Are you a morning person? Consider starting off teaching early morning classes (for customers who like to exercise before work). If you’re more of a night owl, start an evening class. You may not be able to kick the day job straight away, but the extra income should help you trim down those work hours, while the extra energy you get from being Street Fit will help you make the most of your time.

I’m too unfit!

Would you make sure your house was spotless before hiring a cleaner? Of course not; so why do you think you need to be slim and toned to do a Street Fit workout? Street Fit is for everyone, not just those who’ve attained a high level of fitness (although if you want to marvel at some of the results, our Instructor’s courses are the place to come!). People of all shapes and sizes come through our street dance fitness program and you can do it too. If you are out of practise and feeling a little daunted, rest assured. You won’t be judged and you almost certainly won’t be the only one in the room.

I’ve no money!

While it’s true that it usually takes money to make money, in the dance fitness industry it usually costs a lot more money to launch a career than our modest £285 Instructor’s course fee (try adding another zero for a typical franchise). Could you do a bit of overtime at work? Is there a luxury you could do without for a month or two? Will friends or family lend you what you need? Your course fee is an investment in your future and will quickly be recouped when you start filling your classes.

I’ve no confidence

Doing anything new is going to be a little bit scary, but if we never push ourselves we will never change. Acting confidently will make you feel confident, so instead of worrying that you don’t know anybody, use that fact to indulge in a bit of play-acting (this really does work!). Before long, the upbeat atmosphere of our Street Dance Instructor’s Course will banish those early nerves and leave you wondering what all the worry was about.

You could even consider recruiting a couple of friends to come with you (but don’t forget to sign up as an agent first to bag some referral fees!)

I could never breakdance!

Street Fit isn’t breakdancing! There are plenty of other fun and funky hip hop moves that can be incorporated into a Street Fit workout. Besides, learning any skill has to start somewhere so don’t give up on yourself just yet. There could well be an inner ‘B-Boy’ (or girl) waiting to come out.

I’m too old to street dance!

As long as you’re fit enough to exercise, you’re fit enough to learn a Street Fit routine (just check with your GP first if you have any doubts). And don’t buy into the myth that losing weight will make you frailer as you grow older. Evidence shows that regular exercise helps you enjoy better health in old age, including improved strength, co-ordination and gait.

I’ve never danced before!

There are no pre-requisites to attending a Street Fit Instructor’s Course (although you have to be 18 or over). The fact that you’re on this page is probably enough to indicate that you would benefit from registering.

I don’t know how to sign up

That’s easy! Just go to http://www.streetfit.tv/become-instructor, and scroll to the bottom for our list of upcoming courses. Click ‘Register Now’ on the course you want, or feel free to visit http://www.facebook.com/streetfit.official and nag us for a course in your area.

Is Street Fit® the Real Deal?

Any investment in your future needs to be carefully considered, and we understand the need for caution before trusting any company with your money and time. Dance fitness programmes like Street Fit® are revolutionising our relationship with exercise, but what are the benefits in joining our family?

Please Read the Small Print…

We don’t claim to be the only successful dance fitness company out there, but we do like to think of ourselves as one of the most generous. We also like to keep things simple, with no hidden costs or nasty surprises:

The initial Street Fit Instructor’s Training Course, including the license, costs just £285 and is renewable annually, with no need to attend another course; the workout DVD and Street Fit® Volume One music is provided free. Monthly online Street Fit membership, though highly recommended, is optional and costs just £12.50 a month. Membership is worth its weight in gold with regular choreography and music releases to inspire you, and our valuable marketing and corporate support at your service.

Our structure is also refreshingly simple. We don’t create hierarchical networks of franchisers and managers, instructors and substitute instructors. Street dance is about being free to live, dance and express yourself, with no unnecessary restrictions. You get your license; you run your own classes.

We Create Our Own Celebrities

We could have invested a large proportion of our capital on attracting celebrity endorsement, but we prefer to create our own celebrities. We don’t want to have to charge our members four figure initial franchise fees (plus compulsory monthly fees) to cover the costs. The dancers you come across in the Street Fit® promotional videos might not (yet) be household names, but they are talented, accomplished professionals who have come through a rigorous selection process to become the faces of our brand. They have just the right blend of charisma, attitude, fitness and technique that we demand of a Street Fit® role model. As long as you find them inspiring, that’s all the celebrity we need.

Hip hop is Happenin’

Dance styles move on, and what was popular in the Nineties, and even the early years of this Century, have fallen out of favour with the masses. Obviously, if you are looking to maximise attendance in a dance fitness class you have to provide what’s popular, and right now that’s hip-hop/street dance. Whereas some dance fitness companies choose to mix elements from different dance styles, and even non-dance disciplines, we provide pure, undiluted street dance. That way, we can help you build up a loyal, devoted customer base with committed dancers who know exactly what they’re getting each week.

Our History Tells Its Own Story

If you still need convincing that Street Fit® is not just another flash in the pan, just take a look at our legacy. Our parent company, CreativeVolt, has plenty of experience in running street dance workshops for schools and corporations up and down the country, and is well-positioned to lead the field in this exciting new fitness phenomenon.

What’s Holding You Back?

Starting life as a dance fitness instructor sounds a great idea on paper, doesn’t it? For starters there’s the increased earning potential; then there’s the chance to meet exciting new people; the knowledge that you will be gradually honing your body with every workout and, top of many people’s lists, there is the increased freedom.

There’s the freedom to choose when and where you work, what routines to teach and how many sessions to run to meet your lifestyle goals. Best of all, there is the freedom that naturally comes with earning a living doing what you have a passion for.

But the concept of freedom is elusive. We know when it has been deliberately taken away from us (just ask any grounded teenager), but there are less obvious forms of restriction. We may feel held back by the opinions and attitudes of others; for example, we may feel restricted by our sex, weight, racial background or socio-economic class. Alternatively, we may feel weighed down by the presence of technologies such as CCTV, or even the social obligations of keeping our Facebook profiles updated.

Then there are those shackles that we impose upon ourselves: our addictions to certain behaviours or substances; those insecurities that tell us we’re not good enough and the excuses we use to back them up.

What has all this got to do with Street Fit®?

Starting up a new business is one of the most life-changing experiences anyone can make, and often brings up feelings of inadequacy and fear of failure. We may also come up against some of societies prejudices as people tell us why we shouldn’t pursue our dreams. Street Fit gives you the opportunity to have your own business within the street dance fitness industry and allows you to make the positive change you need to.

Pushing the Envelope

If you’re stuck in an unfulfilling life situation, you need to understand why before you can start to move forwards again. Is it really your mean employer who is holding you back in life? Is self-employment really only for those with plenty of money to get them off the ground? Or are these excuses designed to keep you in your comfort zone?

Pushing the envelope feels uncomfortable. As you approach the unknown, your anxiety levels increase. Your hands may start to sweat, your heart rate increases and you may get sleepless nights. The easy option is to avoid the situation and go back to our usual routines but the price is mediocrity and the frustration that we are missing opportunities to improve ourselves and our circumstances.

Increasing Your Comfort Zone

Although you will probably never completely overcome your fears, it is possible to increase your threshold by setting yourself constant little challenges. If you are uncomfortable with talking to people directly, try using the telephone instead of email every now and then. If you’re socially awkward, make the effort to talk to a stranger every time you leave the house, even if it’s just to comment on the weather. Just as in the gym it is those last few reps that do the most good, those small daily efforts will be an ideal preparation for facing the bigger challenges ahead.

Freedom is the greatest reward you can get but, like all rewards, it needs to be earned. As leadership advisor Robin Sharma puts it: “It’s risky out on the limb, but that’s where all the fruit is.”

A Light in the Dark

Do you hope for a better future?

The word ‘hope’ is not often associated with business and, when it is, people sometimes connect it with a lack of commitment to getting results. ‘Hope is not a strategy,’ is a common phrase heard in action-orientated workplaces and it is perhaps true, for example, that many people who ‘hope to set up a business’ never get around to taking the actual steps necessary.

As an attitude though, hope is much-needed at the moment, to combat the waves of pessimism and cynicism coming at us from all angles. Job losses, service cuts, obesity on the rise…it’s a wonder we make the effort to get out of bed in the mornings.

A hopeful disposition can actually inspire us to take action, rather than succumbing to the paralysing effects of despair. Martin Luther King knew this when he urged black Americans to ‘hew out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope’. With hope we can bounce back from setbacks and start each day expecting to succeed, rather than fearing failure.

With inflation starting to fall, and accountancy and business advisory firm, BDO, revealing an increase in business optimism between December 2011 and January 2012, there are encouraging signs for those looking to start a new venture this year.

A Source of Hope

As fitness instructors, we are also a source of hope to others. When life is unfulfilling it is understandable that many people stop doing the activities they once enjoyed and turn to comfort foods to cope. When the pounds start to pile on it takes a huge amount of motivation and endurance to turn the corner back to a healthy life.

You can become a role model to these people, giving them hope for the future: hope that they can regain control of their bodies; hope that they will avoid ill health and reach a good age; hope that other people will start looking twice at them.

By helping individuals to change, you are also helping society itself to change. A successful fitness industry is not only beneficial to the economy for the tax revenue it generates, it will also have a positive effect on the health service. In May last year, the Prime Minister David Cameron announced that obesity was costing the taxpayer £4 billion a year. This is not just the cost of treating obesity alone, but includes the health conditions where obesity is often a contributing factor (especially Type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease).

Ultimately, by becoming a fitness instructor you can play your full part in a campaign which refuses to give up on our communities as places where we can earn what we’re worth, find fulfilment in the things we enjoy and live long, healthy lives.

And if you are still finding it difficult to motivate yourself under the weight of all the bad news, there is an old proverb worth remembering:

‘The darkest hour is just before the dawn’.
